Fun match raises money for Dorothy House Hospice!

After their matches the ladies of Paulton Rovers Netball Club played against their partners and dads. This is something that has been on the cards for a very long time but has never come fruition. This year with the passing of beloved coach Stu it was finally time to play this game, with all proceeds going to Dorothy House Hospice.

The first game started well, with the Men giving the ladies a good battle, however the Ladies superior skills soon shone through and they took an early lead. The Men were shocked to discover that Netball is not as easy as it seemed and struggled to grasp the rules, with Ryan Tucker playing well at GK despite numerous calls for obstruction and Clive Bush working well in the centre court making his wide proud with many interceptions. After a quick change over the second half started with the Men scoring well and working well in the centre court with particular good performances coming from Rob Black and Joe Conway. Ben Fuller played well at Center using his size well and passing into Ben Wiltshire at GS and Dave Neil at GA who eventually got a few in. However the ladies still won!

The second game was more difficult for the ladies as the men grasped the rules. Dan Bisgrove, Bradley Freeman and Martin Kilburn played well showing great enthusiasm and in some cases even actual skill!!  Despite this once again the girls remained victorious.

Over the course of the day and by a collection in the club Paulton raised over £80 for Dorothy House. Thank you to all the men who played and all the other family who came along to watch and cheer.

Super Successful Car Boot

The first ever Paulton Rovers Netball Club Car Boot Sale took place on Sunday 2nd August.

The day was a complete success from start to finish with a large turn out of both sellers and buyers. With many of the sellers reserving pitches for the next Car Boot Sunday 6th September.

In total the funds raised from the door was £384.60 with £123.51 going to the netball club. The netballer’s cake stall raised a grand total of £72.55 and the netballer’s bits and pieces stall raised £50.90.

To top it all off the sun was out for the whole day!!

Paulton in a shoot out

On Saturday afternoon Paulton Rovers Netball Club held a sponsored shoot-out competition and fun day.

The event involved all players trying to score as many goals as possible within two minutes, with prizes going to the highest scorers.

The rain did not dampen spirits and the whole event was moved indoors to the village hall where the turnout and support from the local community was fantastic.

For spectators there were many fun side stalls to try such as beat the goalie competition, raffle, tombola, lucky dip, cake stalls, refreshments and the trash or treasure game and many more.

Friends and family were encouraged to have a go at the shoot-out for a small fee of 50p and the competition was fierce.

Congratulations go to Cheryl Wiltshire, Amelia Darlow and Rebecca Shakespeare for winning the shoot- out in their categories,

The club very proudly wore their brand new kit for the first time and invited all sponsors, MA Cloe Builders, Ford Fuels and RJ Lynch Construction to say a huge thank you and show them how well their funds had been spent.

The kit was supplied by Primate8 of Bristol and the club would like to extend their thanks for their friendly, prompt and efficient service.

After the shoot-out the teams moved outdoors to play a fun netball match with juniors and seniors playing together.

Paulton Rovers Netball Club is raising funds to put in new floodlights at Paulton Memorial Park so that the club can train safely in the dark winter months and keep their sport in the village.

The target for the sponsored event and fun day was £300, although an incredible sum of £400 was raised purely from the sidestalls without any sponsor money even being handed in.

The club still has a long way to go yet to raise the £4,000 needed for the lighting.

It was a hugely successful day that most importantly was fun and a massive first step forward towards the overall target.

Thanks go to the parish council for its help and support and to all the sponsors and everyone who helped and supported on the day.

The club has plenty of other events planned so look out for the ’70s/’80s/’90s disco at Paulton Rovers on October 6, carol singing at Tesco and Somerfield and the popular Xmas fayre.

The club hope to reach their target by the end of March next year.
