Junior U12s going from strength to strength!

Paulton Rovers Under 12’s travelled to Wells Blue School on a cold but sunny morning in their brand new kit’s raring to go.

The first match was against Bridgwater 3.  Paulton started strong from the start with great defensive work from Morgan WD, Emmie GD, and Vanessa GK. This allowed the attack of Lori C, Ellie WA, Rebecca GA and Grace GS to link up well, converting some great interceptions into goals. A change in the squad for the second half had the girls continuing their great form increasing the score. As the team’s confidence grew so did the speed of the game, their passing accuracy and movement into space.  With some great shooting from Cerys and Grace and excellent defensive play from Shannon, Macy, Bethany and Ella, Paulton were able to win 6-0.

The second match was against Bridgwater 2, a stronger side who pressured the girls to make some passing mistakes.  Everyone worked their hardest with Bethany, Emmie and Macy working together to close down Bridgwater’s fast attack to limit their goals.  Another rotation at half time saw Rebecca GA and Cerys at GS working hard in attack to try and convert the team’s centre court play into goals, unfortunately Bridgwater’s defence proved too strong.  Bethany, Ellie, Vanessa and Ella continued to work hard in defence restricting Bridgwater’s attacking opportunities. The team lost 8-0 but fought to the end showing great commitment and determination.

The next match was against Purnell. Paulton took to the court with Emmie at C and Lori on the wing. This new partnership provided a strong link with the attackers using all of the court’s channels to impress their spectators linking up with Cerys GS and Rebecca, GA who found the net time again to creep Paulton ahead. The defence also worked hard with Shannon, Bethany and Macy continually making interceptions proving to be too tough for Purnell.  In the second half Grace came on at GS to give a strong performance. With the defence changing to Morgan, Vanessa and Ella who ensured that Paulton maintained their dominance over Purnell to win 6-1.

Finally the last match was against a tough Galmington side.  The girls made a good start with Grace, Ella, Shannon and Lori linking up well in attack and Morgan, Vanessa and Rebecca providing a solid defence with some great marking to hold Galmington to a 1 – 0 lead. However in the second half despite the girls keeping in the game, marking well and putting everything they had been taught at training into play, Galmington proved too strong, winning 6-0.  This was the team’s best performance to date with them leaving proud of how they all played showing a great club effort.  Player of the tournament was Shannon.

The coaches would like to thank all of the parents for supporting the team. Paulton Rovers Netball are always looking for new players for more information email info@paultonnetball.co.uk or contact Victoria on 07735507963/01761 471448

Junior Tournament Report

Paulton juniors played their third tournament of the season on Sunday 4th December.
The squad had been drawn against three teams, Sydenham, Yeovil and Galmington and were keen to put into practice their recent weeks of training.

The first match was against Sydenham, a match both players and coaches felt the team could win.  The first half started well with Paulton dominating the pace of the game with Lori at C and Ellie at WA linking up well to feed Lauren and Rebecca as shooters.  However despite the team maintaining procession in the first half Paulton were only able to score 2 goals despite the attack consistently turning over Sydenham’s defence.  At half time the girls regrouped with the first of many team rotations with Maya making her debut at WD making valuable interceptions from the whistle.   Sydenham however came out stronger than in the first half passing the ball accurately down the court to score 3 goals, winning the match 2 – 3, despite Emmie at GD and Macey at GK working hard, creating the foundations of a strong defensive partnership.

After a positive team talk and another rotation the girls took the court to play against Yeovil.  Grace came on at GS returning from injury to link up well with Lauren and Creys who both played GA.  Vanessa also came on at WA to feed the circle with flare, providing support to Meg at C.  Despite successfully turning the ball over, Paulton were not able to capitalise on their success often losing possession due to poor passing against strong team.  This enabled Yeovil to push ahead 2 – 6, despite the defensive unit of Macey and Cerys closely marking their circle attackers and Shannon limiting the WA’s options at WD.

The final match of the day was against an anticipated strong side, Galmington.  The girls however came out fighting with accurate passing and great movement down the court.  With players dodging clear of their defenders creating options Paulton were able to take control of the game to lead at half time 2 – 1.  The second half continued well for the team with the girls coming forward for the ball and reading Galmington’s play to intercept their centre play, only allowing them to score 1 goal.  As the minutes ticked down Paulton’s spectators were hoping for a draw, but as both team fought for the final goal Galmington were to score in the final minute to win 2 – 3.  Despite the disappointment of not drawing against the experienced side the girls walked away knowing that they had held their own and played their best netball of the day.

The coaches would like to thank the team’s supporters and parents for cheering the girls on and for their continued support.

Player of the tournament was Lauren.

Successful U12s Tournament

The latest generation of Paulton Rovers Netball Club Juniors entered the U12 Somerset League on Sunday 9th October in Wells. The Club entered two teams, this is a first in the club’s history.  All of the girls were excited at the prospect of playing their first competitive tournament despite this there were still some nerves.

Paulton 1’s first match was against an experienced Wells team, however once the girls had shaken off their nerves and gelled together the team were able to give Wells a good match.  Unfortunately and despite the good defensive play of Ella, Meg and Vanessa working hard together Wells pulled ahead 0 – 3 to win.  The next two matches for the team weren’t so easy with an exceptionally talented side from Bridgwater consistently managing to score against Paulton and a determined Yeovil winning 1 – 8.  Shannon, Cerys, Grace and Vanessa worked well together in attack, focusing on their passing into the circle allowing Cerys to score a fantastic goal despite the tall defenders and much to the delight of the team’s supporters.  Finally the girls took on Purnell but again despite working hard to attack the ball the team’s lack of experience and height disadvantaged proved too much, losing  7 – 0.

Paulton 2 had a different mixture of results, winning two matches, drawing one and losing one.  The girls first played Galmington and gelled quickly for Lauren to score two well deserved goals.  Accurate passing out of defence from Macey, Bethany and Emmie ensured that the team kept procession long enough to win the match 2 – 0.  Bursting with excitement from their first game the team next played Wells in a well matched fast paced game.  Lori, Ellie and Emmie worked hard dodging to get free to ensure that the ball flowed consistently between the defence and shooters of Rebecca and Lauren.  Both teams worked hard resulting in a draw of 1 – 1.  Next the team played Yeovil in an exciting game which saw both teams passing the ball well and defending hard each end of the court.  Unfortunately Yeovil’s shooters hit the target repeatedly resulting in Paulton losing 2–5.  Finally the team took on Purnell in a nail biting equally fought match with Paulton clinching the win 0 – 1.

Paulton’s coaches would like to thank all of the parents who came along to support and cheer the teams on and would like to congratulate Morgan and Bethany on being awarded Players of the Tournament.

The Club is still looking to increase its junior membership, especially its U14 and U16 age groups.  Email us for more info – info@paultonnetball.co.uk

Great final tournament for Juniors!

Paulton Rovers’ Junior Netball Club travelled to Wells Blue School on the 20th March for the annual end of season tournament.  The Club took two squads, one U14 and one U11 with both teams performing well with fantastic results.

Paulton’s U14s started the morning against a strong Bridgwater1 side.  With the girls anticipating a tough match they decided to play at a steady pace and focus just on their passing.  This decision paid dividends with the team pressurising Bridgwater’s defence to score 4 goals against their 5.  Fantastic movement across the court from Elena GD, Alice WA and Ruby C ensured that the team kept up with Bridgwater matching them goal for goal, much to the delight of the spectators and players.

On a high from their first match the team of 7 then realised their winning potential and pulled together, all focusing on getting in front of their defenders and attacking into space.  This paid off as Megan GS and Lucie GA scored some fantastic goals and cemented their working partnership with Elena GD and Dolly GK working hard in defence, turning over valuable rebounds to secure two great wins against Purnell, winning 0-6 and Bridgwater 2nds 0-7.

The team’s forth match was against an impressive looking Yeovil who didn’t disappoint.  The first half ended with Paulton trailing 4 – 1 and feeling defeated, however after a good half time the girls headed back on to court and focused on getting in front of their players, upping their work rate and concentration to pull back the score to 6 – 4.  A loss, but a valuable turning point for the players to understand that you play to the final whistle with a positive attitude.

After lunch the girls faced Wells and Sydenham.  The defence once again worked hard with both Karla WD and Dolly GK making some fantastic interceptions taking the ball at full flight, much to the delight of the spectators.  Ruby and Alice kept up their work rate feeding the circle with accurate passing and great attacking vision to ensure that the team secured two more wins.

Finally the girls faced Chilcompton in a tense match with both teams wanting to win to finish off a great day.  Once again Paulton played with great accuracy, with Lucie GA converting Chilcompton’s defensive errors into goals and Megan GS making great drives to create space in the circle.  Elena GD, Dolly GK and Karla WD continued to work well creating a tight defensive unit allowing Chilcompton to score only 4 goals.  As the final whistle went Paulton were ahead 8 – 4 much to the delight of their spectators and coaches.

All of the girls played outstanding netball and gelled together as a strong team proving that training had paid off.  Elena was voted Players Player.  The coaches would like to thank all the parents for their support this season and to Katrina for umpiring.  If you are interested in playing netball (U11 – U16 or senior) then please contact Victoria 07735507963 or contact us here.

U11 Success at First Tournament

U11’s

On Sunday, Paulton under 11s squad travelled to Wells Blue School for their very first tournament.  All the girls displayed nerves yet started the day with smiles on their faces and the aim to enjoy the experience of the day.

Paulton started the tournament with a match against Bridgwater.  It was evident in size and experience that it was a tough game.  All the team settled into various positions and worked very hard to keep Bridgwater to a very respectable 9-0 loss.

The second game against Sydenham began with further squad rotations and Paulton taking more time with their passing and movement.  Their careful passing and shooting led them to a 4-1 win!

With a boost of confidence from the last win and more squad rotations, Paulton started the game against Purnells very well.  Again, with good attacking and defence, Paulton secured a deserved win of 4-2.

A huge well done to all the squad for two wins out of three at their first tournament. You made everyone at Paulton Rovers Netball Club very proud.  The squad included Grace, Rebecca, Ellie, Macey, Cerys, Lori, Shannon, Lucy and Megan.

Player of the tournament went to Lori- well done!

Thank you to Cheryl and Helen for umpiring, and to all the parents for their support.

U14′s

On Sunday Paulton Rovers U14 travelled to Wells Blue School – from the start the girls felt they were up against tough competition and knew that each game would be a battle. Due to illness, injury and holidays only 7 girls could make it meaning that they would all have to play every game.

First up were Wells, this was a nervous game with some bad passing decisions proving pivotal enabling Wells to win the game.

After a short break Paulton took to the courts to play Tor. With better passing in centre court they gave Tor a good game that could have gone either way, unfortunately for Paulton Tor took the lead in the second half and held on to remain victorious.

With no break this time the Paulton 7 remained on court to play Sydenham, despite tired limbs Paulton took an early lead that gave them the boost they needed. The girls maintained their lead trough tot the second half and thanks to some good movement up court they won the game.

The final game was against Purnells, this is always a tough and evenly fought game. Despite having beaten Purnells the previous weekend, in a friendly, the tired Paulton girls couldn’t quite grab a win in their final game.

All the girls played well with Player of the tournament going to Elena and most improved going to Alice. Both girls showed great skill in interceptions, movement with some brilliant passing.

Thanks to all the parents who helped boost spirits on a very gloomy Sunday in Wells!

Purnells v Paulton Rovers Juniors 20/02/11

Paulton Rovers’ Juniors took to the court on Sunday 20th February to play their first ever full hour match against Purnells’ U14s 1st Team.  With a squad of 9, Paulton warmed up well and took to the court with determination to play with focus.  Both teams started well with accurate passing and movement, creating a balanced first quarter which ended 7 – 6 to Paulton.

After a positive team talk and a squad change with Jade replacing Olivia at GK, Megan switching with Evie at WD and Olivia moving to WA swapping with Alice, the girls returned to the court with the desire to build on their small lead by slowing down the pace and moving into space.  The second quarter also saw Lucie (GS) and Darby (GA) find their feet, working well together to balance the circle and score some fantastic goals, expertly feed by Ruby (C) and Olivia.  The defence also worked hard, bringing the ball up the court from the back line with precision movement and control, allowing the team to capitalise on Meg’s (WD) interceptions and Purnells’ rebounds, pulling the team forward to finish 17 – 12 at half time.

The third quarter saw Paulton change again with Ruby switching with Evie at C and Alice with Megan at WD.  The girls returned to the court to focus again on their court spacing and to capitalise on their lead, using different centre passes and long balls into the shooters.  However Purnells came out fighting disrupting Paulton’s flow and managing to gain possession of the ball more frequently.  Despite this Zoe and Jade defended the circle hard making some great interceptions to ensure that Purnells could only score 4 goals, with Lucie and Darby scoring at every opportunity to insure that the team stayed in front to finish 24 – 15.

Finally the team prepared themselves for the final quarter knowing that Purnells would come out fighting, with our fitness declining the fresh legs of Ruby (C) and Meagn (WD) helped Paulton to remain in control of the game.  With the team working hard to use all of the court and to keep their passing accurate the girls were able to match Purnell goal for goal as they fought back.  Some excellent feeding from Olivia and support from the defence ensured that Paulton kept pushing forward to win 33 – 23, much to the delight of the team and their supporters.

Both teams played some fantastic netball and proved that they are now ready to move up to hour long matches.  Paulton would like to wish Purnells the best of luck when they enter the U14 Regional Tournament in March and look forward to playing them again soon.  The team would also like to thank everyone who came to support them.

Players voted by Purnell:  Ruby and Zoe

Player’s player:  Lucie

Tournament of Experience For Juniors

On Sunday September 24, Paulton Juniors travellled to Wells Blue School on a sunny morning for their first tournament of the season.

This season Paulton entered two U12 teams – the Pumas and Panthers – with both teams wearing their new kit sponsored by Ford Fuel Oils and M.A Cole.

Pumas’ first game was against Tor.

The girls nervously took to the court but soon found their feet as the team quickly gelled together and started scoring goals, while defending well enough so not to concede any.

The final result ended with a well-deserved 10-0.

Panthers’ first match saw them take on an experienced Galmington team.

The girls took to their positions, remembering everything they had been taught in previous training secessions.

Their hard work and enthusiasm paid off with them only conceding six goals.

The next match saw the two excited teams take on one another much to their amusement.

The match showcased the girls’ development and new-found skills, which they had picked up during summer training, with a noticeable improvement in their passing and footwork.

All parents were able to watch an enjoyable game, which ended 0-9 to the Pumas.

After lunch the Panthers played their extra match against Tor with the Pumas cheering them on.

Unfortunately they lost despite their great team effort, which saw them make many interceptions at both ends of the court as their confidence grew making it hard for Tor to relax.

The final match for both teams saw them take on an experienced and older Bridgwater side.

Both teams used the experiences gained from the morning’s previous matches to play against a fast-paced Bridgwater.

The girls held their own, defending all the way down the court while passing to each other strongly.

Despite losing, both teams came off court smiling after having a great morning of netball.

The club would like to thank the parents for their help during the morning and as always their enthusiastic support.

Pumas Player of the Tournament: Darby.

Panthers Player of the Tournament: Eleanor.
