Junior Success @ Final Tournament

Sunday 24th April saw Paulton Rovers’ juniors play in the final tournament of the season, a friendly all day tournament.  Paulton took to the court with high hopes of continuing their league success of coming 9th out of 21 teams.

The first match was against Tor which saw the team gel quickly to dominate the match with some great centre court play from Ruby, Evie, Karla and Ellie.  The defence also worked hard to ensure that Tor could not match Darby and Olivia’s shooting.  Paulton finished their first match on a high wining 3 – 4.

The second match was against Purnells with Megan on at GS and Olivia moving to C.  Again the team worked hard defending well at both ends of the court with Alex and Harley making some great circle interceptions.  Unfortunately Paulton lost  5 – 4 in a very close match.

Undetered by their loss the team next played Burnham and some great centre court play and quick passing into the circle allowed the team to dominate winning 6-3.

Finally the girls took on Bridgwater 2.  Arguably the first half did not go to plan, with Bridgwater proving too slick and quick for Paulton, however after a half time talk the girls game out fighting driven by Evie’s vocal motivation.  The team had their supporters cheering for joy as inspirational shooting from Megan and Darby saw the team come back from defeat leaving Bridgwater looking fazed.  Great defending down the court and excellent team work also insured that the opposition could not increase their lead allowing Paulton to catch up 10 – 8.

The team’s final performance insured them a place in the semi final against Bridgwater 1.  Unfortunately the girls lost to a very experience side despite playing some great netball.

Overall the girls finished an impressive 2nd in their group.

Paulton’s coaches would like to thank all of the parents for their support on Sunday and for their continuous encouragement throughout the whole season.

Paulton Rovers are looking to increase their junior club from September.
If you are aged between 10 – 16 and would like to join or pop down to see us in train up until May 13th at Paulton Rovers Football Club please contact Victoria 07735 507963 / Shelley  07779 125792 or contact us via email.

Paulton B Vs Mars – 24th April

Paulton knew that this match would be a tough one having lost when they visited Mars earlier in the season, but they were looking forward to the challenge!

A nail bite ting 1st quarter saw a score line that was pretty much goal for goal, quick turn arounds in centre court by Liz and Laura ment that Paulton held a very narrow lead of 7-5.

A quick change saw Charlotte come on at GD, this addition of pace threw Mars. Char and Becky worked well in defence getting many interceptions and trying out a new stretch technique!! Paulton were still in the lead at half time 17-14

With the heat getting to many the 3rd quarter was a tough one, Jade played her usual outstanding game creating space and making herself available for passes. The heat was too much for Paulton and they let their lead slip by one goal. 22-23.

Katrina came on to take the GD bib from Kim and having subs proved in valuable, Paulton began to fight again. Helen and Kristie swapped shooting positions and this proved a great decision as neither missed and Paulton kept pushing the ball forward, defending fantastically therefore forcing Mars to make mistakes which Paulton seized on. Paulton finished the game with a fantastic win 36-25.

Thank you to all who came to cheer us on!!

Our final game is Saturday @ 10:30 at home vs Minstrels, spectators welcome!!

Paulton Rovers Junior’s are brilliant!

Paulton have a few more league games to play next month but they are currently 9th out of 21 which is fantastic, seeing as most of our girls are playing up an age group!

The girls also play extra matches as we field a friendly team too, due to not having enough players for 2 squads.

Dolphins Vs Paulton A 20th March

Paulton travelled to Yeovil for this top of the table clash.

Paulton started the first quarter with there new look defence with Charlotte continuing to play GD for the injured Victoria.  With miserable weather conditions Paulton took time to settle but lead 10-7 at quarter time.

Into the second quarter and Paulton found there feet with Cheryl and Davina scoring well and Josie and Charlotte making some good interceptions.  At half time Paulton were 5 goals ahead 20-15.

The third quarter Paulton knew they couldn’t let up and some excellent court play from Deb, Hayley and Ness saw the score still in there favour after 45 minutes 27-23.

The last quarter Paulton didn’t have that little bit of luck to finish of the match.  A few turn over’s from Dolphins saw the game end in a draw 34-34 all.

With just 3 matches left Paulton still hope to get promotion.

Thanks to all the supporters that came down and stood in the rain again.

KO Cup – The Finals – 13th March

For the first time in a very long time both Paulton Rovers Netball teams were in the final of the KO Cup.
Both teams travelled to a very sunny Taunton Vale full of high spirits…

First up for Paulton were the B team who took on Wyndham in the Lower Plate final.  This was going to be a tough match for the young B side with Wyndham coming from a higher division. However Paulton B started confidently and played well as a team to force Wyndham into playing some great netball.  This was not an easy game for the Yeovil side who struggled to pull comfortably ahead in the first quarter. With some great defending by Laura, Becky and Kim, Paulton held Wyndham off and some great attacking play by Liz, Jade, Helen and Kristie meant for a good game. Super subs Kelly and Amy added extra energy at half time.  Unfortunately the experienced Wyndham team just did not miss their targets eventually beating Paulton B. The score did not reflect the level of play shown by Paulton’s B Team.

The A team took on Claremont in the Upper Plate match.  Due to injury captain Hayley had to pull in star of the B team Charlotte to help out in defence. Both teams played well with the majority of the match being goal for goal. Some quick turnovers by Deb and Ness in centre court allowed Cheryl and Davina to shoot for goal. Josie played fantastically well in defence with Charlotte fitting in brilliantly. They prevented Claremont’s score from being a lot higher. Claremont finished the match victorious.

Paulton Rovers Netball Club would like to thank all the supporters who travelled along with us and cheered us on so loudly!!

 Bring on next years final…

Neptune Vs Paulton A

Paulton travelled away to Bridgwater to play another tough match against Neptune. Having beaten them at home at the start of the season, Paulton still knew they had to play well and commit themselves to the game.  The first quarter started a little unsteady but Josie, Vic and Deb in defence were working at 100% to try and stop Neptune getting the goals. The first quarter battle ended 11-7 to Neptune.

With Hayley coming at C, and Ness staying at WA Paulton had to dig in and try to close the gap in the second quarter. With excellent court play and linking of the defence into the attack, Cheryl and Vina were able to score some excellent goals, but Paulton were still trailing resulting in a half time score of 23-15 to Neptune.

This was unfamiliar territory for Paulton so with a few more squad changes, Paulton were determined to get the game back. The third quarter started well but with a few umpiring decisions not going our way, saw Neptune still in the lead with a score of 31-26.

The fourth quarter saw all team members playing first class netball but unluckily it was not Paulton’s day. Final score 41-35 to Neptune.  Thanks to all supporters for coming along and helping to keep us going!!
