Paulton’s season came to a close on Saturday with their annual presentation evening. It was an emotional evening that encapsulated the clubs season – a mixture of joy and tears.

This season we were hit hard after we said goodbye to our beloved coach Stu, without him this club would not be the club we are. He gave us our passion, our spirit and our can do attitude – “there is no such thing as can’t ladies” He will be sadly missed not just by our club but by the netballing community. We will continue to play with his words ringing in our ears and next season we will make him prouder than ever before when we continue to expand our club and push for promotion.

This season our juniors performed outstandingly in tournaments finishing mid table, with our U11s finishing 3rd after the end of season friendly tournament. Next season we’ll be introducing an U16 and hope that all the girls will enjoy this next step towards senior matches. We would like to thank all our girls for playing this season and all the parents for their support – we are a unique club thanks to their support!

Our senior A Team enjoyed their first season in the Premier Division and battled well against strong competition finishing mid table despite injuries and illness causing a restructure of the squad just after they got into their stride. The B Team showed their usual grit and determination and pushed hard to improve on last seasons 5th place finish. Once again pregnancy, injury and illness effected the team but they still played with heart and finished mid table.

This summer we will be holding some “Back to Netball” sessions, this is a nationwide scheme aimed at providing a gentle introduction or reintroduction to netball for female players over sixteen years old. The first of these will start 15th June 19:00 at Paulton Rovers Football Club. Everyone is welcome.

Junior training will be back 7th September at 18:30, Senior training continues on a relaxed basis over the summer with selection starting in August. If you are interested in any of our up and coming events or would like to join us for training please get in touch via email: info@paultonnetball.co.uk or call Victoria: 07735507963/01761471448

Paulton travelled to Taunton hoping to win the last game before the Christmas break. With a smaller squad than usual, Paulton were still determined to win and get home quickly for the Christmas party that evening.

Despite the freezing temperatures Paulton started steadily with Ness and Cheryl accurately scoring with every opportunity. The centre court play was pressured well by Quantock but Shelley, Hayley and Cheryl worked hard to ensure they kept possession. At half time Paulton were ahead 33-14.

At half time Quantock came fighting back bringing the score to 40-24 after the third quarter. However; Josie, Vic and Deb were determined to keep focussed and defended very well. Some excellent interceptions by all saw goals converted. An enjoyable game that saw Paulton win 52 goals to 32. Well played by both teams.

The second half saw the defence of Charlotte and Catherine determined to gain possession which with strong court play from Deb, Hayley and Cheryl helping Helen to increase the score line.

Paulton took to the court in their brand new kit with a slightly altered side due to illness and injury. Despite these changes Paulton took very little time to calm down and with some good passing up the court from Jade and Darby Paulton took an early lead finishing the quarter 11-4.

For the second quarter Timsbury came back fighting determined to show the younger Paulton side what they were made of. However the new defence combination of Kim and Laura worked well and Timsbury struggled to get the ball in the net. Quick turn overs meant that Helen and Kristie were able to further Paulton’s lead, they finished the quarter 18-12.

A quick change saw Kelly Bailes coming on at GK after half time. Liz moved to WA and fed the shooters well. However Timsbury found their stride and some good shooting allowed them to pull level with Paulton, at the end of the third quarter there was a tense tied score of 26-26.

Paulton were struggling to get the ball into their shooters and despite some great team work Timsbury pushed further ahead. The score line did not reflect the effort put in by the whole of Paultons squad. The final score was 30-37.

Thanks to all our supporters.

Despite the rain Paulton B took to the court a happy and confident team. The first quarter started strong with some good turn overs from the mid court players Liz and Jade. The rain eased but Paulton did not ease up on Keinton and they took the quarter 17-5

The second quarter went much the same with Helen on target to push Paulton even further into the lead. Katrina and Zoe made some great interceptions preventing the Keinton attack from scoring and the ball went quickly back up the court to Kristie who worked well with Helen to finish the quarter 29-9

After a quick pep talk from the supporters and a change over with Darby coming on at WD Paulton came out fighting, but so did Keinton who capitalized on some poor passing to score more than the Paulton shooting team. The quarter ended 24-16.

For the final quarter Darby went to GA to assist in the shooting circle. Kelly B worked well at WA feeding the shooters brilliantly. At the other end of the court Kim made some interceptions that were quickly converted by the Paulton shooters. Paulton finished the game 41-27.

Thanks to all the supporters who braved the weather to cheer us on.

Paulton’s junior’s travelled to Wells on Sunday for their first tournament of the season. The girls didn’t disappoint the Club continuing a winning weekend after both senior teams won on Saturday.
The juniors’ first match was against Bridgwater 3. The girls took to the court with excitement and nervous and gelled quickly with new team mates Lucy and Chloe. Bridgwater started at a very fast pace taking Pautlon by surprise. This caused the girls to play some untidy netball with many misplaced passes allowing Bridgwater to take advantage. However, after a good team talk at half time the girls took to the court playing at their own pace, with Chloe and Karla calming the team down. Zoe and Harley in defence also found their feet overturning many balls allowing Megan and Lucy to take advantage, both scoring some excellent goals. With the team working hard and concentrating on the direction of their passes and movement into space the team pulled ahead to win 6 -4.

The second match was against Sydenham which saw Paulton play some fantastic netball. Olivia came on at WA and fed the circle with great accuracy as shown in training and Megan and Lucy began to gel in the circle confusing the defence. Evie once again controlled the game at C supporting the team vocally with encouragement. Harley and Zoe also proved unstoppable in defence jumping for every rebound and marking the attack tightly to force held balls. All of the team worked hard and upped the tempo in the second half incorporating recent training techniques such as set pieces; with Karla and Chloe balancing out the attacking play with the use of channels. A mature performance allowed the team to win 11 – 1.

Finally the third match did not go Paulton’s way, losing to an impressive Bridgwater 1 who played with great flare and accuracy throughout the court. The girls did however meet their team targets set at half time to continue their impressive form.

Player as voted by the team coaches was Lucy. Once again we would like to thank all of the parents for their sideline support and encourage anyone between the age of 9 – 16 looking to play netball to contact Victoria on 07735507963 or contact us via email

Paulton A travelled to Bridgewater on Saturday with mixed emotions after GD, Victoria broke her ankle in the previous match against Sharks and missing the team’s captain, Hayley out for a second week with a back injury. To add the team’s concern they were also missing defenders Charlotte and Josie meaning only four A team players were available. However with the support and enthusiasm of the B Team the club headed to the match confident that they could hold their own against an experienced side.

The first quarter started well for Paulton with Laura, Helen and Becky finding their feet in the premiership match. Ness stepping in at GD also found her bearings connecting well with Becky at GK to keep Saturn at bay allowing Paulton’s attack to match the team goal for goal. The team finally pulled ahead to finish the quarter 10 – 12 to Paulton thanks to some brilliant passes from Debbie and Helen into the circle.

The second quarter started tense with Paulton realising that they could win the match after proving that both teams were evenly matched. The defence continued to work hard as Saturn’s shooters improved their accuracy with Laura at WD providing essential support bringing the ball up court with some great attacking moves. Cheryl and Davina remained cool shooting some fantastic goals despite being under great pressure as the quarter was goal for goal, to win 22 – 23.

At half time the team had fully gelled with Becky, Ness, Laura and Debbie ready to try some defensive set pieces to rattle Saturn’s attack. The team took back to the court with great enthusiasm with everyone rising to the challenge of passing with control and moving with speed as Saturn became more physical as their frustration grew. Helen continued to feed the circle with accuracy at WA while Debbie made brilliant interceptions up and down the court enabling the team to ease ahead 29 – 32.

The final quarter was all to play for with everyone stepping up to the challenge. Ness and Becky worked hard in defence causing the attack to miss time and over throw into the semi circle. This gave Paulton the opportunity to pull further forward with the team upping the tempo of the match and covering all channels of the netball court. Great team work and enthusiasm allowed the team to win 39 – 43, exceeding everyone’s expectations.
