The action set off at a fast pace in Paulton Bs away game to Mercury, with Paulton managing to sneak into an early lead after the opening five minutes. Both teams were forcing turnovers as Paulton fought to keep their lead from an opposition who were beginning to get into their game. However, Paultons experience meant that they were able to counteract the speed of their young opposition by forcing errors and making the most of the turnaround play. Great mid-court play from Jade and Liz ensured that the sides finished the quarter level.
A tense start to the second quarter saw all 14 players that began the game remain on court. Paulton were showing a great work rate as they pushed their opponents all over the court and forced multiple errors. Kristie and Helen were working well in the circle, with Kristie showing some superb athleticism to maintain possession following any rebounding shots. With a lot of breaking following centre restarts, Paulton had to keep their heads to ensure that sloppy play was kept to a minimum as Mercury were taking full advantage of any penalties awarded to them. The end of the half saw the teams leave the court with Paulton holding a small lead.
The third quarter saw Darby take the position of GA to give Paulton more attacking options within the circle. However, Mercury were not letting up and their pace throughout the court meant that Paulton had to fight hard for every ball. A great team of supporters kept Paulton heads up as Mercury threatened to level the scores throughout the first half of this penultimate quarter. The new pairing of Laura and Becky continued working well defending the circle and upped their game even more following a Mercury resurgence, forcing their opponents to make errors when trying to feed the ball into their shooters. With the support of Zoe at WD, they were able to turn defence into attack with relative ease. Great work from Liz and Jade ensured that Paultons shooters didn’t have the same trouble receiving the ball as their Mercury counterparts, with Helen and Darby netting the ball to maintain the away teams lead by the end of the quarter.
Paultons more experienced side were able to cement their lead throughout the final quarter, with Zoe and Liz making some key interceptions throughout the centre third. Helen remained on target within the circle with Darby feeding well and netting a lot of rebounds. Jade was tireless in her support of both defence and attack, earning her the well-deserved Player of the Match award. The game ended with a 30-25 win for a very happy Paulton side.
On Saturday Paulton B headed to Sydenham to take on Ambers, after last weeks crushing defeat the ladies needed a win to boost morale.
The first quarter started strongly with good passing and attacking by all players, moving the ball well up the court making sure that they capitalised on every interception. With some great movement by Jade who seemed to be playing everywhere at once Paulton finished with a comfortable lead.
With spirits even higher Paulton took to the court determined not to let their lead slip. Fantastic shooting from Helen and Kristie meant that there was little the Ambers defence could do to stop Paultons attacking players. Katrina in defence gained interception after interception providing very little opportunity for the Ambers shooters to find the net.
For the third quarter Paulton made a change to their attack with Darby coming on at GA, she immediately made herself known and was free for a lot of passes. Laura continued to keep her player at bay and made many interceptions that Darby and Helen slotted away with ease. At the end of the third quarter Paulton were still very much in the lead.
The final quarter started much the same as the other three with great team work from all players. Liz and Kim used their favourite tactic of the long pass to perfection with numerous goals as a result. Ambers suffered an injury to their GS and the switch made Paulton stumble momentarily, however the defence quickly recovered and the attack capitalised on some good passes into the circle. Paulton finished victorious with a score of 15-48

Paulton A traveled away to Tor to take on Knights for their 2nd match of the season on a high after their team effort last Saturday.
Taking a squad including Josie and Kelly this week, Paulton started with the selected 7 and found the first 15 minutes tough, but trying some new training drills feeding the circle, managed to take the lead 11-10.
Going into the 2nd quarter with a new confidence, Davina proved more of a match for her GK and kept her shooting average high receiving strong passes from Cheryl and Hayley. The game seemed goal for goal with both sides fighting hard to try and take the advantage, Knights capitalized and went into half time with a 1 goal advantage 20-19.
Charlotte rotated with Josie, coming on at GK trying to prevent the high balls going into the circle. Josie and Victoria worked hard together using their experience to turn over some missed shots and passing the ball into the center court to Vanessa to put some great balls straight into the attacking circle. 3rd quarter finished 31-31.
Charlotte came back on for the last 15 minutes, with Paulton knowing they had to keep their nerve with the score line so close. It was all to play for being Paulton’s first season in the premier division and their first win insight. Every player on court played fantastic netball showing they deserve to be in the prem. When the final whistle blew Paulton had intercepted, fought, and worked hard to finish the game 43-40.
First game of the season saw newly promoted Paulton A take on Jupiter in the Premier Division.
Paulton started the first quarter with there new look side knowing they had nothing to lose against the league winners from last season. They took a few minutes to settle but held there own and made sure Jupiter knew they had a battle ahead of them. Even though Paulton were behind by 5 goals 3-8.
Into the second quarter and Paulton found there feet with Cheryl and Davina scoring well and the defence making some good interceptions. At half time Jupiter still lead by 4 goals 13-17.
The third quarter started and Paulton knew they really had to up there game to get the scores level. But some good interceptions for Jupiter saw them extend there lead to 18-27. With a few minutes remaining of the quarter Deb injured her ankle and come off so a change was made with Helen coming on at WA and Hayley moving to C.
The last quarter and Paulton made another change with Jade coming on at C. A good 15 minutes for Paulton with some excellent court play but they unfortunately couldn’t level the score. Final whistle Jupiter won 40-27.
An excellent performance for the first game of the season in the top league.

See you there ladies!
Sunday 24th April saw Paulton Rovers’ juniors play in the final tournament of the season, a friendly all day tournament. Paulton took to the court with high hopes of continuing their league success of coming 9th out of 21 teams.
The first match was against Tor which saw the team gel quickly to dominate the match with some great centre court play from Ruby, Evie, Karla and Ellie. The defence also worked hard to ensure that Tor could not match Darby and Olivia’s shooting. Paulton finished their first match on a high wining 3 – 4.
The second match was against Purnells with Megan on at GS and Olivia moving to C. Again the team worked hard defending well at both ends of the court with Alex and Harley making some great circle interceptions. Unfortunately Paulton lost 5 – 4 in a very close match.
Undetered by their loss the team next played Burnham and some great centre court play and quick passing into the circle allowed the team to dominate winning 6-3.
Finally the girls took on Bridgwater 2. Arguably the first half did not go to plan, with Bridgwater proving too slick and quick for Paulton, however after a half time talk the girls game out fighting driven by Evie’s vocal motivation. The team had their supporters cheering for joy as inspirational shooting from Megan and Darby saw the team come back from defeat leaving Bridgwater looking fazed. Great defending down the court and excellent team work also insured that the opposition could not increase their lead allowing Paulton to catch up 10 – 8.
The team’s final performance insured them a place in the semi final against Bridgwater 1. Unfortunately the girls lost to a very experience side despite playing some great netball.
Overall the girls finished an impressive 2nd in their group.
Paulton’s coaches would like to thank all of the parents for their support on Sunday and for their continuous encouragement throughout the whole season.
Paulton Rovers are looking to increase their junior club from September.

Paulton knew that this match would be a tough one having lost when they visited Mars earlier in the season, but they were looking forward to the challenge!
A nail bite ting 1st quarter saw a score line that was pretty much goal for goal, quick turn arounds in centre court by Liz and Laura ment that Paulton held a very narrow lead of 7-5.
A quick change saw Charlotte come on at GD, this addition of pace threw Mars. Char and Becky worked well in defence getting many interceptions and trying out a new stretch technique!! Paulton were still in the lead at half time 17-14
With the heat getting to many the 3rd quarter was a tough one, Jade played her usual outstanding game creating space and making herself available for passes. The heat was too much for Paulton and they let their lead slip by one goal. 22-23.
Katrina came on to take the GD bib from Kim and having subs proved in valuable, Paulton began to fight again. Helen and Kristie swapped shooting positions and this proved a great decision as neither missed and Paulton kept pushing the ball forward, defending fantastically therefore forcing Mars to make mistakes which Paulton seized on. Paulton finished the game with a fantastic win 36-25.
Thank you to all who came to cheer us on!!
Our final game is Saturday @ 10:30 at home vs Minstrels, spectators welcome!!
