Paulton A Vs Dukes

Paulton were worried about playing Dukes as they had lost to them not so long ago in the Cup.

They started strong matching the team goal for goal.  As the match settled the defence were able to intercept Dukes play, with Ness, Vic and Deb linking up well together, enhancing Cheryl and Davina’s chances to score.  The first quarter ended 12 – 8.

Paulton came out strong from the whistle in the second half with Shelley and Hayley making some dynamic moves and passes into Davina at GS who proved unstoppable, not missing a shot giving the team a 27- 21 lead at half time.

Josie came on to replace Ness at GK who moved to WD to give our oldest and shortest player a well earned rest!  The defence were fantastic and with a solid team performance Paulton extended their lead to 40 – 30.

Deb came back on at WD for last the quarter which saw Paulton play some excellent netball furthering their lead to 50 – 40. Player of match was Hayley at WA.

The team would like to thank Jane for umpiring and welcome spectators to their Semi Final Cup Match on 27th February.

Paulton B Vs Ambers 6th February

After an impressive win during their last match confidence was high within the Paulton B team, however with yet another changed team Paulton new they couldn’t take anything for granted.

The first quarter saw Ambers take advantage of some unsure play by Paulton B, with Ambers taking consecutive goals. However Paulton did not take long to get in their stride and with some great turn overs in centre court by Liz Paulton pushed ahead taking the quarter 10-9.

The second quarter was goal for goal with Kelly Bailes marking her return to the Paulton side with some excellent passes into the shooters circle. Paulton continued to use their fitness levels to force the Ambers side into making mistakes allowing the home team to take the quarter 18-16.

After a quick half time pep talk from Victoria, Deb and Stu, Paulton took to the court determined win this game. With Jade playing her heart out getting some excellent interceptions and passing beautifully into the shooters Paulton kept pushing ahead. Shooters Helen and Kristie had a fantastic quarter barely missing finishing the quarter 30-18.

Determined not to let the lead slip away Paulton continued to play better netball. Becky and Kim in defence worked well as a partnership and took many interceptions that thanks to great team work sailed down the court to be neatly put in the goal by Paulton B’s star shooters. The game finished with a win for Paulton B 40-25.

Thanks to all the supporters who came along and helped push us on!

Sharks Vs Paulton A

First Division team Paulton A travelled to Yeovil to take on a premier league side Sharks in a Cup plate match.

The first quarter, the underdogs Paulton A, came out with nothing to lose and matched the premier league team goal for goal displaying fantastic team work which took Sharks by surprise finishing the first quarter 10-6 in Paultons favour.

Second Quarter saw the Sharks sharpen their game realising that Paulton A were out to win. Defense was tight in both circles causing Paulton A to raise their game with accurate passing in to the circle from Hayley and Shelley, ending with faultless shooting from Davina and Cheryl they were able to hold on to their lead ending the quater 21-18 to Paulton

Going in to the second half Captain Hayley shuffled the squad and brought on Vanessa to carry on the excellent work within the shooting circle creating space needed to extend the lead, this saw the sharks retalliate with fearless attack which showed Paulton they had more work to do. Third quarter ended 33 – 29

The final quater was frustrating for the sharks as Paulton defense stepped up to the plate, Victoria and Josie rarely allowing the sharks the opportunity to score. The interceptions and fluidity of play from center court, coupled with the skill of the shooters, enabled Paulton to increase their lead final score Paulton A 49 – 37

To add to a fantastic win and great team effort Cheryl was capped Man of the Match, for her calm yet foccused performance which outshone the premier league players.

Newton Vs Paulton A

After a longer than normal Christmas break due to poor weather conditions, Paulton were raring to play! With real commitment from all, Paulton took to the court in torrential rain. With a nervous start, all players tried to play steady and carefully but the rain and wind did not help! With a strong starting defence from Josie, Victoria and Debbie, Paulton managed to stay level with the first quarter ending 6 all.

The second quarter saw Paulton stay with the same formation. Some excellent centre court play from Hayley and Shelley saw some accurate passes going into the circle. These passes were converted well by Cheryl and Davina, resulting in Paulton leading the game 14-6 at half time.

Paulton wanted to keep this advantage so with just one change, Vanessa came on at GS. Newton fought hard to stay in the match which resulted in all players giving the game their 100% commitment. Paulton’s defence worked really hard, resulting in Newton not converting so many goals. At the end of the third quarter Paulton were still leading 24-17.

The final quarter saw Paulton trying to play their own game, work well as a team and keep possession. Again, Newton were not giving the game away and stole many interceptions which resulted in goals. With a firm shooting performance from Vanessa and Cheryl, Paulton managed to win the game. Another great win for the whole team and supporters. Thank you for coming to watch and support in the horrible weather.

Final score- 30- 24

Paulton B Vs Garnets

After last weeks momentous win Paulton were in high spirits as they took to the court on a drizzly Saturday. With another new defence Paulton were a touch nervous but didn’t show it and the defence of Katrina, Kim and Laura worked well to prevent the Sydenham shooters from getting their shots on target. The first quarter ended 6-3 to Paulton.

The second quarter saw Paulton well and truly get in to their stride and thanks to some great middle court play by Elizabeth and Jade Paultons attack took advantage and increased the lead 14-8

After a quick change around in defence with Amy coming on to replace Laura at WD not even the rain that was now pouring could stop Paulton’s winning spirit and as usual Helen played a blinder not missing any shots and with Kristie on fine form too Paulton finished the third quarter 25-15.

The final quarter was a very damp one and saw Garnets get frustrated with Paulton’s playing ability, allowing Paulton to play their own game and work well as a team. With some great play by all in this quarter Paulton finished with a comfortable lead of 33-23.

Junior Tournament 6th December

Paulton Rovers’ Juniors travelled to Wells on a surprisingly dry Sunday morning to play the last tournament in 2009.  With only one squad in action the girls had only three matches to play compared to the usual 5, however they knew the matches would be more competitive playing against the top teams in the league.

Paulton’s first match was arguably the toughest against Galmington A, which proved to be the most nail biting as the girls managed to hold their own in the first half to finish 6 – 4 behind.  Some great defending from Harley at GD and centre court play from Evie and Ruby had enabled shooters Darby and Zoe to make the most of every attacking opportunity.  However, Galmington came out to win in the second half with great movement across the court which put Paulton off their stride to lose 10 – 6.

After a good team talk and the girls identifying their own team areas for improvement they took to the court against Burnham with great confidence.  Evie continued to work the centre court linking up with the attack to feed the ball into Megan at GS along with Olivia, Harley and Zoe testing Burnham’s attack with some great interceptions in defence.   At half time the girls realised they needed to calm their passing down as interceptions were being thrown away, undoing their hard defending work.  With Steph on to replace an injured Olivia the team took to the court determined to reduce Burnham’s 4 – 2 lead.  The team achieved this slowing their own game down and coming forward for the ball to keep possession, preventing Burnham from running away with the match.  The final score was 3 – 6, a loss to Paulton but a great win after discovering the match was a friendly against an older side!

The final match was against Wells B which displayed the skills the team had been practicing over the last few weeks.  Steph worked hard at WD marking with two hands, with Ruby, Harley, Evie and Olivia chasing down every loose ball, with a few tap backs.  Harley and Zoe continued to dominate in defence showcasing their ability to anticipate the move of the attackers and the flow of the match, along with Megan dodging well in the semi circle to shoot and link up with Darby at GA.  Paulton deservedly won the match 10 – 2.

Overall the girls impressed their coaches not just with their skills on court but also with their attitude, constantly cheering each other on and praising performances.

Players of the tournaments:  Darby and Zoe

Paulton Rovers NC would once again like to thank all the parents for their support on the day.

Newbarn Vs Paulton B

Paulton B travelled to Taunton after a few weeks of due to the bad weather. Despite this they were in good spirits when they took to the court in the winter sunshine.  With another changed team Paulton took a while to get into their stride allowing the young Newbarn team to take the first quarter  6 – 11.

The second quarter saw Paulton start to come together more as a team and some quick turn overs in centre cour,t by Elizabeth and Kim, Paulton’s attack were fighting to close the gap. However Newbarn were still in the lead 17 – 13.

After some unusual half time refreshment Paulton came on court a fresh and confident team.  Big defence by Katrina and Becky meant that  the Newbarn shooters only managed to score one goal. With Jade running everywhere making herself known Paulton kept pushing forward and finally took the lead 18 – 21

Having been in this situation with Newbarn before Paulton were not going to let the win slip away from them.  Thanks to some great long passes and great working of the ball around the shooters circle the attack were on fire. To top it off Kristie and Helen just did not miss in the final quarter and 25 – 31
