Facing tough competition in the league tables Paulton B knew that they needed a win to keep their chances of promotion alive.

The game started shakily with the ball moving from end to end with neither team able to take advantage from interceptions made. Paulton were just ahead at the end of the quarter 6-8.

A good pep talk and a little team shuffle saw Paulton came out fighting. Interceptions by Shelley and Jade meant that the team could work the ball swiftly to the awaiting shooters. Canons defence pushed hard but could not gain an advantage and Paulton pushed further ahead 14-20.

Another team shuffle saw Sarah back on at WA adding a dash of pace to Paulton’s attack. The team worked hard together with Andrea defending brilliantly and preventing her shooter from gaining any ground. Darby at GA got free from her defender well getting into space and teamed up well with Helen who repeatedly hit the target. The quarter ended as Paultons best defensive performance of the game 19-33.

A final squad rotation saw Liz back on at WD making some fantastic interceptions. Some great movement from all the team had the ball working quickly down the court to the attackers. The ladies kept going until the very last whistle and were proud of their win the game ended 42-27.

On Saturday 28th January Paulton A took on Neptune from Bridgwater in their second meeting of the season. Having beaten Neptune before Christmas the team were looking to secure five more valuable points against the side. Unfortunately for Paulton, Neptune had other ideas and came out fighting from the first whistle.

The team took to the first quarter with a new squad rotation with Laura replacing the unavailable Debbie at centre. Within five minutes one could anticipate the match being nail biting close with both team’s shooters scoring at every opportunity and both defences working hard to overturn the centre passes. Laura showcased her versatility at centre ensuring that the new rotation gelled together quickly, while she also linked up well with Hayley at WA to feed Cheryl GA and Davina GS. Unfortunately for Paulton Neptune were able to convert two valuable interceptions pushing them ahead after the first fifteen minutes to finish 10 – 12.

After a positive team talk and one of many rotations Shelley debuted from Pauton B to replace Laura at centre and Jess swapped with Davina to play GS. Victoria and Charlotte continued to challenge Neptune’s unstoppable shooters in defence, managing to make some valuable interceptions through zoning and communicating with Vanessa and Shelley forcing the opposition to make passing errors. Cheryl and Jess also gelled quickly together in the shooting circle linking up together with short passes and rotations to score an impressive 15 goals. This enabled the team to turn the match around winning the quarter 24 – 22.

Half time saw the team reflect on their performance so far with everyone agreeing they needed to take control of the game by slowing the tempo down. With another rotation of Laura replacing Vanessa at WD the team took to the court determined to focus on driving on to the ball and to take their time when feeding forward. Paulton started the quarter shaky making silly mistakes but soon settled with Neptune matching them goal for goal. Victoria and Charlotte continued to work hard in defence changing tactics to push the GA wide and to keep the GS out of her shooting comfort zone, but unfortunately they still managed to shoot with great accuracy finding the net. Hayley, WA and Shelley C continued to feed the circle with Jess at GS making great use of her height and athleticism to keep the ball in Paulton’s attacking third enabling Paulton to win the third quarter 33 – 31.

The final quarter saw Davina come back on at GS replacing Jess, and Vanessa swapping with Laura at WD. Unfortunately for Paulton Neptune had their quarter of the match pushing Paulton back into old habits allowing them to take control. Despite this the team continued to work hard over turning some great mid court balls with Cheryl and Davina scoring some fantastic goals. Unfortunately in the final minute Neptune pulled away by one goal to win 42 – 43. However despite the disappointment of losing the team walked away knowing that they had tried new rotations successfully therefore, adding to the squad’s development.

Paulton Rovers Under 12’s travelled to Wells Blue School on a cold but sunny morning in their brand new kit’s raring to go.

The first match was against Bridgwater 3. Paulton started strong from the start with great defensive work from Morgan WD, Emmie GD, and Vanessa GK. This allowed the attack of Lori C, Ellie WA, Rebecca GA and Grace GS to link up well, converting some great interceptions into goals. A change in the squad for the second half had the girls continuing their great form increasing the score. As the team’s confidence grew so did the speed of the game, their passing accuracy and movement into space. With some great shooting from Cerys and Grace and excellent defensive play from Shannon, Macy, Bethany and Ella, Paulton were able to win 6-0.

The second match was against Bridgwater 2, a stronger side who pressured the girls to make some passing mistakes. Everyone worked their hardest with Bethany, Emmie and Macy working together to close down Bridgwater’s fast attack to limit their goals. Another rotation at half time saw Rebecca GA and Cerys at GS working hard in attack to try and convert the team’s centre court play into goals, unfortunately Bridgwater’s defence proved too strong. Bethany, Ellie, Vanessa and Ella continued to work hard in defence restricting Bridgwater’s attacking opportunities. The team lost 8-0 but fought to the end showing great commitment and determination.

The next match was against Purnell. Paulton took to the court with Emmie at C and Lori on the wing. This new partnership provided a strong link with the attackers using all of the court’s channels to impress their spectators linking up with Cerys GS and Rebecca, GA who found the net time again to creep Paulton ahead. The defence also worked hard with Shannon, Bethany and Macy continually making interceptions proving to be too tough for Purnell. In the second half Grace came on at GS to give a strong performance. With the defence changing to Morgan, Vanessa and Ella who ensured that Paulton maintained their dominance over Purnell to win 6-1.

Finally the last match was against a tough Galmington side. The girls made a good start with Grace, Ella, Shannon and Lori linking up well in attack and Morgan, Vanessa and Rebecca providing a solid defence with some great marking to hold Galmington to a 1 – 0 lead. However in the second half despite the girls keeping in the game, marking well and putting everything they had been taught at training into play, Galmington proved too strong, winning 6-0. This was the team’s best performance to date with them leaving proud of how they all played showing a great club effort. Player of the tournament was Shannon.

The coaches would like to thank all of the parents for supporting the team. Paulton Rovers Netball are always looking for new players for more information email info@paultonnetball.co.uk or contact Victoria on 07735507963/01761 471448

It was a very cold winters day for Paulton As second match of the year against strong opposition from Galmington Netball Club. Paulton took to the court knowing that this would be a very tough match against a team currently riding high in the division. Nevertheless, it was a strong start with Davina and Cheryl working well together in the circle to convert most of the passes in. Trident showed why they are one of the strongest teams by taking control of the game as the quarter wore on, intercepting a number of passes and moving the ball easily into their shooting pair. The defensive partnership of Jess and Victoria were tested to the limit as Tridents two shooters didn’t seem to miss any opportunity to shoot. But Paulton never let up the pressure as they were not going to give the home team an easy game. The quarter ended 18-9.

A change in the defence, with Laura replacing Vanessa at WD, unsettled the Trident attack early on in the second quarter and Paulton were able to settle into their game quicker than their opposition. Playing at their own pace, Paultons defence made some key interceptions and with Deb and Hayley’s neat interplay throughout the mid court, were able to convert these successfully. As a result Paulton were able to score five goals without reply. With a change to their defensive strategy, Trident were able to slow the visitors momentum and settle into their own rhythm. This allowed them to continue pushing the score away from the visitors. The quarter ended 34-21.

After a stern team talk throughout the half time break, Vanessa returned to the court at WD with Paulton knowing that they had to continue working hard to prevent Trident from running away with the victory. Unfortunately, the home team were able to pick up on the pace at which they ended the previous quarter and managed to score four without reply. Some basic errors started to creep into the Paulton game as the visitors struggled to feed the ball into their shooters and Trident took full advantage of these turnovers. However, Paulton were not giving up and continued to apply as much pressure as possible on the home team, really making their attack work hard to get the ball through their net. Tridents speed through the court also became their downfall on a number of occasions with footwork errors becoming more frequent as they tried to bring the ball down the court as quickly as possible. Paulton were able to use these turnovers to their advantage but it wasn’t enough to prevent the home team ending the quarter 52-32.

Paulton returned to the court for the final quarter with Laura back at WD and determined not to go down without a fight. Through some sharp passing and strong interplay the visitors were able to find ways through the Trident defence, with Davina and Chreryl linking up well to maintain possession following any rebounded shots and to score. Tridents quick pace in the previous quarters was starting to take its toll and, together with the relentless pressure being put on them by Paulton, the home team were struggling to feed the ball into their shooters. Paultons tenacity and overall determination to keep on fighting until the final whistle was blown led to this last quarter being their best of the game. Although the match ended 63-48, Paulton were incredibly proud of their overall performance against very strong opposition and know that they are now a better team as a result of the events of the day.

Thank you to everyone who braved the cold to provide valuable support. Player of the match, as voted by Trident, was Davina Neil (GS).

A chilly but bright start to Saturday did little to calm the nerves of Paulton B who knew this was to be a vital game in their quest to gain promotion as champions. Queensway have proven to be tremendous opponents in previous encounters so Paulton knew they would have to battle hard.

The game started well with the ball moving quickly from one end to another with no clear signs that either team would storm ahead. Interceptions by Andrea at GK and Liz at WD meant Queensway struggled to get the ball to their confident shooters. However Queensway slowly picked up momentum taking the ball directly back to their attackers after interceptions from their GK. Despite this Paulton remained determined to stay in the game with Jade and Sarah getting some great turn overs and passing well into the shooting circle. End of the quarter score 11-6.

A rotation in defence saw Laura on at GD with Kim moving back to GK. Paulton continued to fight for every ball covering their players well. Passes were intercepted by both teams with everyone wanting to make their mark on the game. Helen and Darby worked hard in attack, fighting against strong opposition. The ball moved well around the attacking circle with constant movement allowing free passing. Paulton remained in high spirits with the half time score at 26-12.

The third quarter started quietly for Paulton with Queensway taking advantage of a few rushed passes. However Paulton’s centre court players played hard and fast netball, working the ball well and chasing down every pass. Frustratingly Queensway were working at 100% as well and the gulf between the scores crept ever wider ending the penultimate quarter 43-20.

The final rotation saw the defence rotate once more to keep Queensway on their toes, however frustration was setting in for Paulton as they continuously looked for a way to keep in the game. Great passing from Shelley kept them in the game with all players moving well and freeing themselves from their defenders. Once again the attack had to encounter tough defending from the experienced GK who proved to be a pivotal player. The game ended with a score that didn’t reflect the level of play by Paulton B B. Despite the score line Paulton left the court with their heads high and proud of the level of play they displayed. Paulton B are still on course for promotion if they continue to play the level of netball displayed at Taunton Vale. Thanks to the supporters for cheering us on in the cold!

Paulton Rovers Netball Club are always looking for new players to join, regardless of experience of the game. If you are looking to get fit whilst having some fun then please get in touch info@paultonnetball.co.uk or call Victoria on 07735507963/01761471448

For their first game back after the Christmas break Paulton B knew they had to maintain their high level of play, that they had have developed since the start of the season, if they are to remain in title contention. After watching the A team battle hard the B side took to the court determined to fight and play hard for a win.

The first quarter started well with Paulton turning over multiple Garnet centres. Capitalising on some poor passing, quick interceptions by Shelley WD and Liz WA allowed the game to move at a comfortable pace with the ball swiftly tracking down court to the awaiting shooters. The quarter ended with Paulton comfortably in the lead 21-3.

The second quarter saw steady passing and movement from Paulton B, with Jade moving well all over the court getting free constantly and finishing with fantastic passes into the shooting circle. Andrea made many valuable interceptions at GK preventing her shooter from gaining any ground. Paulton remained in the lead at the whistle 41-6.

After a quick change Sarah was on at WA bringing fresh legs and strong passing, linking well with her attackers. Liz now at WD worked hard partnering well with Kim GD preventing the Garnets shooters from gaining ground and forcing mistakes from the Sydenham side. The quarter ended 58-13.

The final quarter kicked off with Garnets out fighting however the experience and fitness of Paulton kept them at bay. Darby and Helen worked the ball well with set pieces coming together beautifully. They were confidently shooting with precision and this showed with an amazing final score of 84-19.

Thanks to all the supporters and to Hayley and Victoria for umpiring

Paulton A started the first quarter feeling positive and optimistic with heads held high and ready for a challenging match against Vivary who are sitting second in the Premership after Christmas . GK Charlotte, GD Victoria and WD Laura played on the defensive working well together to successfully intercept many balls heading for the Paulton goal. WA Hayley and C Debbie moved the ball skilfully down the court, to Cheryl at GA and Davina GS to work the ball into the circle ready to shoot for Vivary’s goal.

Vivary’s shooters, were however on flying form and hit the target 90% of the time leaving Paulton fighting to catch up. The first quarter ended with an impressivly high score but unfortunately not in Paulton’s favour, 10-18.

The second quarter saw Paulton fight back, with Debbie at C and GK Charlotte making some great interceptions which were successfully passed on to Cheryl and Davina who monoevered well into the circle openings Vivary failed to cover evading their opponents to score some fantastic goals. A change in defence saw Ness come on at WD with fresh legs and a positive attitude that lifted the team, allowing Pauton to pressurise Vivary’s attack. The second quarter ended 17 – 31 to Vivary.

The third quarter saw a change of tactic from Paulton to reinforce the defence against the barrage of goals coming from Vivary, Debbie came off with Hayley switching to C, Vanessa WA and Laura back on at WD. The revised layout worked well with the team succeeding in scoring the most goals per quarter for the whole match. Moreover, GK Charlotte worked out the tactics of Vivary’s GS, allowing some excellent defending to halter the onslaught by Vivary enabling Paulton to close the gap. The third quarter ended 29 – 47 to Vivary.

The final quarter saw Jess come on at GS switching with Davina. Debbie moving back to C with fresh legs, Hayley to WA and Ness to WD. The final rotation enabled Paulton to distract Vivary, allowing them to attack hard down all the channels giving Cheryl and Jess the space to work the circle to score some fantastic goals allowing Paulton to claw back some valuable points. The girls worked hard in the last quarter; they feeding the circle well, facilitating some excellent shots on goal, defending like soldiers but alas couldn’t quite pull back the goals needed to win the match. The final score ended Paulton 40 – Vivary 60.

Thank you to all the supporters who enjoyed an excellent match on a lovely sunny day and to Jane for umpiring a very fast match.

Player of the match voted by Vivary was Charlotte.

The game set off at a face pace with Paulton taking an early lead in the opening five minutes after several key interceptions by the defence prevented the ball from reaching the Jupiter shooters. Some strong midcourt play from Vanessa and Deb saw the ball, instead, travel down the court to the Paulton attack who were able to capitalise on the turnovers by netting the ball easily. Towards the end of the quarter Jupiter began to settle and were able to find ways through the Paulton defence but this wasn’t enough to catch up with the visitors lead before the whistle brought the quarter to an end. Paulton left the court leading 11 – 15.

A tense start to the second quarter saw all 14 players that began the game remain on court. Paulton were showing a great work rate as they pushed their opponents all over the court and forced multiple errors. Cheryl and Davina were working well in the circle, with Davina showing some superb athleticism to maintain possession following any rebounding shots. With a lot of breaking following centre restarts, Paulton had to keep their heads to ensure that sloppy play was kept to a minimum as Jupiter were taking full advantage of any penalties awarded to them. The end of the half saw the teams leave the court with Paulton maintaining their lead at 19 – 24.

The third quarter saw a change the in the Jupiter defence, who brought on a younger, taller GK to try to unsettle the Paulton shooters. However, this tactic didn’t seem to bother Cheryl and Davina who took command of the circle with some neat interplay to ensure that all shots found their taget. The Paulton defence were also building on their strong start applying a lot of pressure to the Jupiter attack and forcing the ball to be turned over. Once in possession, some great work by Vanessa and Deb ensured that Paultons shooters didn’t have the same trouble receiving the ball as their Jupiter counterparts, enabling the away team top extend their lead by the end of the quarter, which ended 30 – 38.

Paulton were able to cement their lead throughout the final quarter by continuing to pressure every pass made by the opposition, forcing them to reset the plays and preventing them from gaining any momentum. Charlotte and Victoria hassled every shot and were able to take possession of the ball following any rebounded shots, with Deb, Hayley and Vanessa moving the ball through the midcourt with some accurate passing and safely into the Paulton circle. The final whistle brought the game to its conclusion with the score 38 – 50 in Paultons favour.

Thanks to the supporters who braved the cold to watch a great game. Player of the match was Davina (GS).

Paulton B travelled to Walton to play their newly formed second team, having played the first side in a tough game a few seasons ago Paulton were unsure what to expect on this cold Saturday afternoon.

The game started well with some great interceptions by Liz and great passing from all of the team. The ball moved quickly and efficiently down the court to the awaiting shooters who had their eye in from the start barely missing a single shot. Jade worked hard at C getting free constantly and putting some fantastic passes into the shooters. Paulton took little time to settle into their winning stride winning the quarter 3-19.

The second quarter saw great movement and communication from the B side, with great team play resulting in a multiple turn overs and some fantastic shooting. Andrea and Kim worked the defensive circle hard barely allowing the Walton shooters to have a chance on goal. Walton were starting to struggle and Paulton continued to play their own game and fight for every ball. The home side managed a single goal where as Paulton found the net 18 times ending the 1st half 4-37 ahead.

After a quick change around to once again show their versatility Paulton we back on court raring to go. Walton brought on a new GS and hoped she would give them a much needed lift however Paulton stood tall and made some great interceptions with Shelley moving the ball well through the centre court up to the attacking third. Helen and Darby worked superbly together moving well and finding themselves free of their defenders were able to score a magnificent 23 goals pushing Paulton further into the lead at the end of the 3rd quarter 8-60.

Walton adopted a more ferocious attitude in the final quarter becoming more forceful with their play, however Paulton remained steadfast with Sarah nipping into space well and making some great long passes into the awaiting shooters. The defence backed up the attack well showing the great play Paulton B can achieve by working solidly as a team. Walton attempted a come back having their best quarter all game however it just wasn’t enough and Paulton romped home victorious 15-72.

Thanks to Victoria for umpiring and to the loud supporters who kept us warm with their cheering!

Paulton juniors played their third tournament of the season on Sunday 4th December.
The squad had been drawn against three teams, Sydenham, Yeovil and Galmington and were keen to put into practice their recent weeks of training.

The first match was against Sydenham, a match both players and coaches felt the team could win. The first half started well with Paulton dominating the pace of the game with Lori at C and Ellie at WA linking up well to feed Lauren and Rebecca as shooters. However despite the team maintaining procession in the first half Paulton were only able to score 2 goals despite the attack consistently turning over Sydenham’s defence. At half time the girls regrouped with the first of many team rotations with Maya making her debut at WD making valuable interceptions from the whistle. Sydenham however came out stronger than in the first half passing the ball accurately down the court to score 3 goals, winning the match 2 – 3, despite Emmie at GD and Macey at GK working hard, creating the foundations of a strong defensive partnership.

After a positive team talk and another rotation the girls took the court to play against Yeovil. Grace came on at GS returning from injury to link up well with Lauren and Creys who both played GA. Vanessa also came on at WA to feed the circle with flare, providing support to Meg at C. Despite successfully turning the ball over, Paulton were not able to capitalise on their success often losing possession due to poor passing against strong team. This enabled Yeovil to push ahead 2 – 6, despite the defensive unit of Macey and Cerys closely marking their circle attackers and Shannon limiting the WA’s options at WD.

The final match of the day was against an anticipated strong side, Galmington. The girls however came out fighting with accurate passing and great movement down the court. With players dodging clear of their defenders creating options Paulton were able to take control of the game to lead at half time 2 – 1. The second half continued well for the team with the girls coming forward for the ball and reading Galmington’s play to intercept their centre play, only allowing them to score 1 goal. As the minutes ticked down Paulton’s spectators were hoping for a draw, but as both team fought for the final goal Galmington were to score in the final minute to win 2 – 3. Despite the disappointment of not drawing against the experienced side the girls walked away knowing that they had held their own and played their best netball of the day.

The coaches would like to thank the team’s supporters and parents for cheering the girls on and for their continued support.

Player of the tournament was Lauren.
