Junior Tournament 11/11/12

aulton’s Under 12s entered the second tournament of the season, with the ambition to gain experience and enjoy themselves. The new squad of Maisie, Skye, Megan, Shannon, Grace, Mollie, Jade and Emily, all decided to play as a team and rotate positions.

In the first match Paulton made a steady start against Purnell and successfully secured a great win, 3-2. Their second match against Sydenham saw Paulton coming back from 3 goals down and all giving 110%. Sadly, due to running out of time, Paulton lost by one goal, 6-5. Their third game was against a more experienced team from Bridgwater, but all players worked hard to keep possession and score some great goals. With a great team effort and some fabulous defending, Paulton won 5-1. The final game of the tournament was against Bridgwater 1; a strong and very tall squad. The team tried their best but sadly found it difficult to get the ball into the shooting circle. The final score was 7-0.

Players of the tournament were Emily and Mollie. They played fantastically well in the defensive circle and made some brilliant interceptions.

Paulton’s U14s also entered the tournament determined to perform stronger and to fully step up into U14 netball after a first disappointing tournament back in October.  With three players missing the squad of Cerys, Pip, Ellie, Lori, Meg, Ella and Bethany knew that they had to work hard at coming forward for the ball and to take their time when passing.  The first match against Wells 3 exceed the teams’ expectations with them impressively winning 5-0 having put into practice a number of set pieces from training and really trying to focus on driving into space.  The second match against Wells 2 proved slightly more difficult due to a height disadvantage, with the team’s performance not being reflected in the score line with all the girls giving 100%.  After a break the girls took on Tor determined to match the standard of their competitors, unfortunately having given it all in the first two matches Paulton couldn’t outplay Tor to lose 7-4.  After a final positive team talk they took on Purnell in their last match to impress not only themselves but also their supporters and coaches in a powerful second half to come back strong winning 7-5 with great attacking play down the court and interceptions in defence, resulting in a fantastic tournament.

Players of the tournament were sisters Ella and Bethany.

Thank you to all the parents and supporters for their words of encouragement.
