Babylon v Paulton A 22/10/11

Last Saturday Paulton A travelled away to play to Sherborne to play Babylon indoors. Having not played Babylon before the team were expecting a challenging game against the previously relegated regional side.

With some apprehension Paulton A took to the indoor court. The first quarter started well as Paulton battled against their nerves to keep the experienced Babylon side on their toes. Paulton’s star shooters Cheryl and Davina scored some fantastic long range goals, despite being under immense defensive pressure from the tight Babylon defence, ending the quarter 10-6 in Babylon’s favour.

Paulton aimed to show versatility in their squad with Laura coming on at WD for the second quarter keeping up the strong defence with Victoria and Charlotte. The defensive trio continued to work hard pushing the Babylon attack and making sure the ex regional side had to work hard to move the ball up the court, only enabling them to slightly stretch the lead 20-11 at half time.

Another squad rotation at half time moved Hayley to C and on at WA with Debbie taking a breather from the indoor heat for 15 minutes to catch her breath. Thanks to some dynamic movement by Hayley in centre court and Vanessa’s strong passing into the circle, Paulton kept up the pressure. The ball moved well for Paulton unfortunately their lack of previous indoor game experience meant that Babylon were able to up their pace having played last season entirely indoors, this pushed Paulton on to the back foot ending the third quarter 34-15.

Rotating back to the starting 7 for the final 15 minutes Paulton came out fighting determined not to let their level of play slip. They battled for every ball until the final whistle and walked off court with their heads held high knowing they had played some great netball and had shown fantastic team spirit having quite literally given their all. At the final whistle the score was 47-21 to Babylon.
