Gems v Paulton A 09/04/211

In the heat of Saturday afternoon Paulton’s A side were away to play Gems with a changed side with Shelley starting in place of an absent Hayley. With the sun shining Paulton’s spirits were high after 2 wins in previous weeks.

After winning the toss, Paulton took the game to Gems from the first centre pass and kept the first quarter tight, goal for goal. Paulton kept their heads to take a small lead 10-12.

In the second quarter Shelley used great movement to create space in the attacking end, feeding the ball into Cheryl and Davina who had to work hard against a strong Gems defence. At half time Paulton were still slightly ahead 20-21.

Going into the second half Paultons defensive trio of Victoria, Charlotte and Vanesssa stepped up the pressure on the Gems shooters. Plucking some great rebounds out the air and used the long ball down court for Paultons shooters to capitalize on the Gems mistakes. The quarter ended with Paulton extending their lead to 32-37.

In the last quarter Paultons fitness levels and team effort showed through with Deb making excellent plays in the centre court. This all proved too much for a tired and hot Gems side enabling Paulton to come away with another win and much needed 5 points. The game ended 40-47.

Thanks to Helen for reserving, Tanya for cheering and Jane for umpiring.
