Tomahawks played home to Hovelands on Saturday in their first home game of the season. The sun was shining and Paulton were hoping to make it two wins out of two! The game started fast and it was clear it was going to be high scoring. The teams were evenly matched but Hovelands had the edge in the first quarter, capitalising on some turnovers made by their defence. The first quarter ended 12-16 to Hovelands.
The second quarter saw some hard work by Paulton’s centre court players Darby, Caron and Jade to keep Hawks within contention. Both teams were consistent with their shooting and the half time score was 20-26 to Hovelands. At half time Paulton made a couple of centre court rotations and they were determined to turn the game around.
The third quarter was very even, but Paulton just edged it winning 16-15 meaning they were going into the last quarter just 5 behind. The final quarter saw Hawks give everything they had. Kirsty and Victoria made some fantastic interceptions in defence meaning Hawks could claw back the goals.
The atmosphere was tense with the home crowd getting right behind Hawks but Cheryl and Davina held their nerve with some brilliant shooting. Hawks won the last quarter 17-9 resulting in a final score of 53-50 to Paulton.
Tomahawks would like to thank all of their supporters who helped them through the dying minutes to secure victory and to Helen for umpiring. Player of the match was Davina and players player Jade and Caron.
