The only Paulton Rovers team in action this week was Vipers who travelled to take on Bridgwater side Mars at Taunton Vale. There was a definite sense of anticipation in the air as the ladies warmed up ready for the game with many of the ladies nervous to take to the court for the first time since the summer break..
With the Stacey Francis masterclass still fresh in their minds the first quarter started well with the ladies linking up throughout the court. Smooth passing from Shelley (C) and Deb (WA) allowed Vipers to take control of the court early on winning the first quarter 2-10.
The second quarter continued much as the first had, with Vipers continuing to shut down any attack the Mars side made. Becky (GK) and Kim (GD) worked hard, using the skills Stacey Francis had instilled at training, with excellent communication and domination within the circle. The Mars attack were rattled and Vipers continued to lead 4-20.
The third quarter saw a change with Helen and Ness rotating positions to GA and GS respectively. The Bridgwater side also changed their shooter this proved a good move for Paulton’s opposition with the momentum changing slightly. A few fumbled passes allowed Mars a slight glimpse at recovering a win. However Paulton held strong to keep the lead 13-29.
The final quarter saw Vipers step it up a gear with Andrea closing down her opposite number and the Paulton shooters finding the net repeatedly. The side came together and used their superior fitness to bring the win home finishing the game with all the points 22-45.
Player of the Match (voted by the opposition) was Helen, Players Player (voted for by Vipers) was Kim
Thanks to all the Wiltshires for coming to support and a very special thank you to Pip for coming to reserve.
