Newbarn v Paulton B 22/1/11

Paulton travelled to Taunton on Saturday determined to keep their winning streak alive despite the freezing weather!!

The first quarter started well for the away side with some great interceptions in centre court by Laura at WD meaning the ball was quickly turned over to the Paulton shooters Kristie and Darby who capitalised and kept on hitting the target. The quarter ended with Paulton ahead 7-11.

The second quarter saw Paulton continue to push ahead and work well as a team with great communication throughout the court. Katrina and Kim worked well together in defence, reading their players and intercepting poor passes.  The Newbarn attack struggled to get the ball to their shooters and with Liz using interceptions and passing well into the GS and GA Paulton maintained their lead 13-21.

After a quick team talk Paulton kept their heads in the game and battled the cold that was setting in to maintain their winning ways. Newbarn took advantage of some cold arms and attacked hard forcing small mistakes in the centre court. However Paulton’s centre court players recovered and made sure their opponents couldn’t capitalise on any interceptions. The score at the end of the third quarter still had Paulton ahead 19-27.

A change for the final quarter saw Shelley come on at WA this additive of fresh pace gave a cold Paulton a new lease of life. Every ball was fought for and interceptions were being made all over the court. Shelley and Jade fed the circle well and with the Paulton shooters on target they finished the game victorious 30-39.

Player of the match: Kim (GD)

Thanks to all our very cold supporters and to Ness for umpiring!
