Vipers v Quantock
With a new look team due to illness and injury there was a sense of apprehension for Vipers when they took to the court to take on Quantock last Saturday.
The first quarter started well, with Kirsty taking on a mammoth task at GK, plucking the ball out of the air with ease. The ball moved well up court with Shelley feeding the awaiting shooters well. The quarter ended 11-8 to the home team.
A quick shuffle saw Andrea back from injury at GD making interceptions left right and centre linking well with the attack prevent the Quantock strong attack from capitalising on centre passes. Kristie back at GS after a number of games in defence showed her versatility finding the net time and time again. The quarter ended with Vipers still ahead 21-18.
Another rotation saw Kim back on at GD linking well with Liz and Kirsty to pressure quantock into making mistakes. Kelly brought fresh legs to the shooting circle, taking control and steadying the pace. Millie out paced everyone at WA getting free to provide invaluable back up to the attack. The game was however getting tighter the third quarter ended 28-27.
An injury early on in the final quarter saw Andrea switch to WD linking well with the other defenders. Helen held the Quantock defence at bay to pusht the team on. Unfortunately Quantocks high standard of attack meant that they kept pushing and with the ball going end to end with ease the game came down to the last second. Quantock made the winning shot as the timer counted down, ending the game 36-37.
